Simple Hyperbilirubinemias
Overview |
---|
- The Simple Hyperbilirubinemias are an arbitrary categorization of disorders which are due to relatively specific defects in hepatic processing of bilirubin. Review Heme Degradation for a discussion of the liver's role in bilirubin metabolism. Depending on the defect, these diseases can result in either conjugated or unconjugated hyperbilirubinemias, either of which manifest clinically as jaundice. Other than Criggler-Najjar Syndrome Type I, these disorders on a whole are fairly clinically inconsequential other than the discoloration of jaundice.
