- All tissues possess a variety of immune cells within their parenchyma which act as sentinels for damage which may include infections as well as trauma from physical, radiative, or chemical insults. Furthermore, immune cells can be recruited to any organ during ongoing inflammatory processes. However, the following organs are specialized for the either the development of immune cells or provide an architectural substrate in which immune cells can gather, communicate, and coordinate an immune response.
