Hemodynamics

- Hemodynamics is the description of the laws which govern blood flow within the vasculature. Ultimately, all blood flow between two points within the vasculature is actuated by differences in the pressure of blood between those two points. Although blood will always flow from points of higher pressure to points of lower pressure, the volume of blood which will flow between these points per unit time is influenced by additional properties of the intervening vasculature and the blood itself, and not solely by the pressure gradient. Below we discuss blood pressure gradients and these additional properties which affect blood flow within the vasculature
