- Here we discuss diseases and functional derangements of the biliary tree. However, given the intimate anatomic, histological, and physiological interrelations between the hepatic and biliary systems derangements in one often lead to pathology in another. Whatever the primary etiology and initial pathogenesis, many hepatobiliary diseases ultimately lead to a fairly limited set of clinical endpoints. We first discuss the features of these clinical endpoints and then delve into the etiopathogenesis of specific disease entities.
