- Thyroid carcinomas are uncommon malignant neoplasms of the thyroid gland. The cell of origin of thyroid coarcinomas is the thyroid follicular epithelial cells except for the medullary carcinoma subtype which is derived from the Parafollicular Cell, also known as C Cells. The listing of thyroid carcinoma subtypes given below is given in the order of decreasing incidence with papillary carcinomas accounting for the majority of cases.
