Renal Agenesis
Overview |
---|
- Renal Agenesis is a congenital malformation of the kidneys which can occur in a unilateral or bilateral pattern.
Unilateral Agenesis |
---|
- Is fairly rare and is associated with hypertrophy of the remaining kidney. Due to chronic compensatory hyperfunctioning, the glomeruli of the remaining kidney may undergo compensatory glomerulopathy eventually leading to chronic renal failure.
Bilateral Agenesis |
---|
- Is incompatible with life. Because the fetus cannot produce urine, there is a deficiency of amniotic fluid which leads to defective development of the lung.
