Parathyroid Gland Histology
Basic Components |
---|
- Parathyroid Gland Capsule:
- Each parathyroid gland is invested with a fibrous capsule that is continuous with the thyroid capsule. Thin extensions of the capsule enter the gland itself and divide each gland into small lobules.
- Parathyroid Chief Cells
- These are the primary functional cells of the parathyroid gland. These cells synthesize and regulate secretion of PTH. Note: These cells should not be confused with gastric chief cells.
- Oxyntic Cells
- These cells are also present in the parathyroid gland but do not have a significant endocrinological purpose.
