Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance (MGUS)
Overview |
---|
- Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance (MGUS) is a relatively common disorder of the elderly characterized by the presence of a detectable monoclonal immunoglobulin band within the serum but in the absence of a detectable neoplastic clone of plasma cells.
- In most cases MGUS is completely asymptomatic. However, a very small proportion of MGUS patients do progress to overt Multiple Myeloma and thus periodic followed-up is recommended to ensure no overt neoplasia has yet developed.
