- Person-to-person transmission of G. vaginalis is via sexual transmission.
Clinical Consequences |

- G. vaginalis causes a vaginitis which is not associated with significant numbers of inflammatory cells; consequently, it is often referred to as a "Bacterial Vaginosis". Symptomology characteristic of vaginitis is observed with pruritis of the labia as well as dysuria. A vaginal discharge with a pungent characteristic fishy odor is observed. Notably, the discharge will contain "Clue Cells", representing vaginal epithelial cells coated in bacilli.
