Gangrenous Necrosis

- Gangrenous Necrosis is not a distinctive histomorphology of necrosis. It is primarily a surgical term referring to a grossly visible pattern of necrosis due to ischemia resulting from obstructive occlusion of vasculature. Dry Gangrene occurs in the absence of superimposed microbial infection and histologically manifests as Coagulative Necrosis. Wet Gangrene occurs when there is a superimposed microbial infection and histologically manifests as coagulative necrosis with certain areas taking on a morphology more akin to Liquifactive Necrosis.
