Thyroiditis

Overview
  • Inflammation of the thyroid gland is referred to as thyroiditis and can be caused by a number of distinct etiologies. Each etiology leads to a slightly different clinical consequences but in general the end-result is defects in thyroid hormone synthesis and thus the clinical syndrome of hypothyroidism. Notably, all etiologies of thyroiditis are common in women.
