Polymyalgia Rheumatica
Overview |
---|
- Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) is an inflammatory disease characterized by gradual onset aching pain and morning stiffness especially in the neck, shoulders, low back, and hips. Onset is typically in the elder years and while the condition is most commonly found in isolation, there is an important association with Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA). In fact, GCA and PMR may represent two manifestations of a single pathogenic entity and roughly half of patients with GCA have concurrent PMR whereas 20% of PMR patients go on to develop GCA.
