Small Intestine Adenocarcinoma

Overview
  • Small Bowel Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of malignancy of the small intestine and tends to arise in the duodenum and jejunum. When tumors emerge near the ampulla of Vater they can surround the ampulla, obstructing bile outflow and thus causing cholestasis and ultimately jaundice. Although rare, long-term presence of Crohn Disease can increase the risk of developing this malignancy.
