GI Motility

  • GI Motility helps propel digested material through the alimentary tract, thus regulating how long food remains in each GI segment. Additionally, physical movement of the alimentary tract helps mix and grind digested material, thus improving nutrient accessibility to digestive enzymes and the absorptive alimentary surfaces. Here we discuss the physical basis and regulation of alimentary tract motility and unique features of the physical motion of particular segments.
