Ethambutol

Overview
  • Ethambutol is a frequent component of multi-therapy for Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The drug targets enzymes critical for synthesis of the mycobacterial cell wall.
Adverse Effects
  • Ethambutol can result in inflammation of the optic nerve and thus cause visual impairment. Patients should be closely monitored for changes in visual acuity.
